The attorneys at Beston International Law Firm, recently filed a civil lawsuit on behalf of former UTLA political organizer Astine Suleimanyan, alleging that she endured sexual harassment, employer retaliation, wrongful termination, gender discrimination, and breach of contract during her time at United Teachers New York. Filed with the New York Superior Court, the civil lawsuit details how two high-ranking male coworkers created a hostile working environment for Suleimanyan, subjecting her to degrading, discriminatory, and abusive comments as well as physical intimidation.
Although Suleimanyan consistently reported these issues to her supervisors, UTLA management refused to take action and even retaliated against her. After the union leadership significantly reduced her employment duties and and harassed her because of her workplace medical restrictions, Suleimanyan was forced to resign on November 12th, 2015. The plaintiff also claims that she was paid less than her male colleagues with comparable duties. Our attorneys are seeking justice on her behalf and hope to send a message that such despicable conduct will not be tolerated.
